Research Area II:
Theory and Practice of Socialism in the Former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe

   Since the foundation of ICS in 1983, we have been regarding

socialism in former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe as our main

research aspect. Now we have formed a “trinity” research pattern of

teaching, researching and

journal construction. We can

take in undergraduates,

graduates and doctor

candidates. In our institute,

the research team is composed of young, old and middle-aged

scholars. We evaluate them by looking at their teaching material,

books and essays.

   One of the main areas of research is the comparative study of the

theory of socialism in China compared with that of former Soviet

Union and Eastern Europe. We compare it with its history and

socialism with Chinese characteristics. The second feature is to study

socialism in former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe from the “party

politics” perspective. We are trying to find how party politics came

into being, developed, failed and revived in socialist countries. The

third feature is to “follow the trend of thought & movement”. Our

research production is leading the nation in some aspects. By studying

the history and reality, we are trying to find the general law of

socialism and special law of socialism in given countries. This is very

important to the healthy development of socialism in China.
